›› South Carolina Young Adults Count

South Carolina Kids Count worked for four years on the young adult report as a way to complete the Kids Count story. It is no longer possible to end the kids' story at age 18. Many young adults hang on with us as extended adolescents for several years after age 18...sometimes for considerably more than several years. Furthermore, some quickly become the parents of children whose problems are the focus of Kids Count reports.

The state-level document, Young Adults in South Carolina, investigates the various transitional challenges of young adulthood, while the county report primarily communicates available local data. The limitations of young adult data put extra pressure on the state-level report to provide the full picture in terms of both data and information concerning the milestones of adulthood: completing education, leaving home, earning a living, getting married, and having children.
